Kardamena Is a Hot Destination for Summer Fun
Once a fishing village, Kardamena (also Kardamaina, in Greek Καρδάμαινα) is a small seaside resort, highly popular in the summer for its scenic location, typical cafes, fun nightclubs, and Alasarnia Festival with cultural and entertainment events, which include everything from live music, to theater, dance, sports, and art exhibitions.
Kardamena is less than 30 minutes drive from Astir Odysseus Kos Resort & Spa, and quite worth the trip if you like lively, touristy spots. Since Antimachia is not far, many visitors come here to hike through olive groves and vineyards towards the Dikeos Mountains, or to ride a bicycle in the countryside. You cannot come to Kardamena and not hike to Antimachia, to see the Venetian castle, or the windmill of Antimachia, which traces its origins back to the XIX century.
Or, if you would rather spend the day at the beach, Kardamena doesn’t disappoint. Its sandy coastline boasts beautiful beaches, some organized, offering facilities for beach volleyball and many water sports such as diving and fishing. You will also find beaches with deep, cold waters and pebbles and beaches with shallow, warm waters and golden sand, safe for families with children.
Kardamena is also a fun shopping destination. Besides high fashion and souvenirs, you can also purchase traditional lace tablecloths, olive oil, wines, and soumada, a traditional drink made of almonds and sugar.
When the night comes, go for drinks at any of the establishments lining the Bar Street, or follow the crowds to the nearest party or nightclub. You can also have a glass of retsina with the locals it the calmer part of the village where they gather to play backgammon in the quainter cafes.
Finally, you can spend a couple of hours in the harbor, watching the colorful fishing boats, and taking in the breeze, before returning to Astir Odysseus Kos Resort & Spa for a well deserved nights’ rest in your luxurious bed.
