Kos Island Highlight: Lagoudi-Zia Mountain Village
Lagoudi-Zia is a tourist mountain village south of Tigaki, about twenty minutes drive from Astir Odysseus Kos Resort & Spa. It has several typical taverns, which serve local cuisine, and enjoys a lovely location not far from Pyli. It is a tranquil village, surrounded by cypress and pine forests, olive groves and scattered oaks, perfect for walks and hikes.
Lagoudi-Zia stands at an altitude of about 350 meters above the sea level, overlooking the Aegean Sea. Because of this high altitude, it has many observation points with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes. Some of the most beautiful sunsets over the sea and the island of Kos can be admired from here, all the way to neighboring island of Pserimos. This is one of the best photo ops you will find on Kos.
The village, which follows traditional classic island town planning, doesn’t have too many tourist landmarks unless you are interested in religious architecture and religious art. The local Church of the Birth of Our Lady boasts traditional architecture with blue domes and several Orthodox icons worthy of attention. The views from the church are noteworthy too, and the trip up to its doors makes for a charming experience, as you will pass domestic animals in your way, as well as traditional homes with colorful gardens.
Lagoudi-Zia is known for its numerous colorful bars and taverns, but also for a variety of shops selling textiles and spices. Last, but not least, the village is also organizing Greek evenings for tourists and locals alike all summer long.
From Zia you can reach easily other traditional mountain villages, like Asfendiou, and Palio Pili.
