Kos, the Cycling Island

Kos, the Cycling Island

Kos is nicknamed the “cycling island” as it offers exceptional conditions for cyclists of all skill levels to explore its territories from the saddle.

The cycling island boasts dozens of bicycle rental shops, like Nikos Bikes and Hard Moto Rental in Tigaki; Dino Rentals, Easy Rider, George Rent Motorbikes, Hot Bikes, and Ideal Rental in Kos city, and the list goes on, with options in every major resort and village. When you stay at Astir Odysseus Kos Resort & Spa, you can count on our guest service staff to arrange bicycle rental for you. As you probably already know, Astir Odysseus Kos Resort & Spa is located in close proximity to some of the best cycling routes of Kos. The popular 23km round-trip cycle route from Kos Town to Tingaki and up to the inland village of Zipari and back to start is great for people who want to experience both flat terrain and mountain biking. If mountain biking is not your thing, you can just follow the coastal bike path in both directions between Kos Town and Tigaki Beach.

Kos is truly bicycle-friendly. You can plan your cycling route using a smartphone app like komoot, check out route options from sites like Bikemap, which offers no less than 56 routes on Kos island, or ask for directions at any bicycle rental shop. There are printed guides and the routes are well marked. Alternatively, you can book a guided tour, as there are several companies offering bike activities for young and old.

Because of its extensive network of cycling routes, Kos is often hosting racing events like the KOS GranFondo 2018, organized by Sports Tours Hellas with the Prefecture of South Aegean, the support of the Hellenic Cycling Federation, and the Municipality of Kos. KOS GranFondo 2018 was held under the UCI and Hellenic Cycling Federation regulations in April 2018. The next edition will take place in April 2019.
